I have gone camping at Trail Lake with my mom’s family almost every August as long as I can remember and this year was no different. We went up Thursday evening and stayed until Saturday afternoon. Jarl’s parents loaned us their tent trailer which made the trip much nicer. My entire family was there minus one sister-in-law and my uncle and aunt and their kids were there too.
Friday morning we hiked to Fehr Lake and then to Shepherd Lake. The dogs love hiking and swimming in the lakes. The kids like seeing new things and Kaley didn’t even mind being in the backpack. She even took a few naps with her neck bent in half. Kaley was the only one to fall in the lake. Fortunately she didn’t get too wet since if happened five minute after we arrived at the first lake. We hiked farther than we planned Friday, but Jacob and Makayla were great hikers and did the whole thing without complaining.
That night Jarl made his best batch of Dutch oven potatoes ever to complement our grilled chicken. The whole meal was topped off with yummy cherry chocolate cobbler. Kaley ended up sleeping with Jarl and I both nights in order to stay warm enough to actually sleep since she won’t stay under her covers without help. The dogs slept too and didn’t whine or bark through the night like they’ve done in years past.
Saturday we hiked to Ruth Lake. Our dogs are never happier than when we’re hiking and at lakes in the Uintas. After our hike we had just enough time to eat lunch and pack up before we had to be out of the campground. It was a great trip and I’d love to spend more time up there if we had the time (and a shower) but it looks like that will be our one camping trip of the year.
