Valentine's was the major headline of February. The kids had fun picking out Valentine's, writing on them, and taking them to school. I bought some for Kaley too fully intending to help her deliver them but it didn't happen. Instead Jarl, Kaley, Emma, and I went to lunch at Red Iguana. The kids loved the heart box of chocolates from Mom and Dad and Valentine cards with dollars in them from Grandma Roper. Jarl made sugar cookies so we could decorate them. The sugar cookies were a bit of a fiasco but we still had fun decorating them. The family got a personalized box of See's chocolates. Happy Valentine's to us.

Our big news in February was that Jarl was released from the bishopric after 3 years and 5 months of service (longer than we've had children). It was bitter sweet. He loved serving in the bishopric and got to help a lot of people in the ward. It will be good to have him sit with the family and help with the handful that is Kaley. Jarl's not off the hook though. He was called as the High Priest Group Leader (he's only 29). He joked that he felt like he needed to lose some more hair to fit in better. Jarl will do a good job there. And we'll benefit from him having about half as many meetings to attend.
Makayla had her first field trip on Feb. 1. She went to Capitol Theater and saw a ballet. Then Feb. 10 she had her 100th day of Kindergarten so she got to dress up as if she was 100 (kind of tricky). She sure loves school and has decided that she'd rather read the decodable books they send home from school than have Jacob read to her for her reading minutes.
Jacob has discovered that he loves to read short chapter books he got from his cousins. It makes him feel good that he can read them in a couple of hours. Jacob did his first school project in February. He made a poster about Theodore Roosevelt and presented it to his class. It's too bad he forgot to remind Mom and Dad about it and the paper explaining it got buried on the counter until the day after it was due so he turned his in late. It was a good learning experience for all of us.
Emma has started using her hands lots more which means she likes having toys a lot. We also got her an exersaucer which she loves. She’s started eating more solid food like graham crackers and bread and muffin pieces. One evening she even snatched herself a good handful of pumpkin chocolate chip cookie right out of my hand. It gave us all a pretty good laugh and she really enjoyed when Ilet her have the rest of the mangled cookie.
Kaley is still Kaley. She told us every few days that she's still the birthday girl since her birthday was in January. She still loves to dress up. We dressed Penny up as her sidekick just like Ladybug girl does with her dog at the end of the book Ladybug Girl.
I took two beginning scrapbooking courses in Photoshop Elements from January to the middle of March. It's fun to have another option for scrapbooking but I also like my other program so depending on what I'm doing I'll use one program or the other.
Our family is playing the piano more. Makayla wanted to learn so much that I started teaching her and Jacob. They enjoy it. Our biggest struggle is remembering to practice everyday. We also got Jarl a piano book designed for adults. He’s wanted to play and has had fun practicing but wishes he could learn faster.
Jarl and I even had a date night in February. We enjoyed a yummy dinner at Market Street Grill and then attended ward sealing night at the temple. It was nice to get back to the temple again and to see how busy it was there.
