Foster Family Camp at Aspen Grove

We went to the Foster Family Camp at Aspen Grove September 18 and 19. We slept in a small A-frame cabin, used community bathrooms, ate in a cafeteria, and enjoyed time together. There was a magic show Friday night that the kids really liked until Makayla decided she was really tired and was ready for bed. Saturday morning we played teamwork games with other foster families. In the afternoon, the kids went with their age groups and counselors to play while Jarl and I went to three hours of training. We had time to play with the kids and relax some too. There was an unusual talent show Saturday evening and breakfast Sunday morning that we missed. Jarl had Church meetings at 9:00 Sunday morning that he wanted to be back for and I didn’t really care about the talent show so we left and got to sleep in our own beds and had a less crazy Sunday morning.

One of the nicest parts of the camp was the four hours of training Jarl and I each got. I need twelve hours of in-service training every year and Jarl needs four hours so we can recertify as foster parents. We’re not thinking about taking anymore kids right now, but it’s so much work to certify and we never know what’s going to happen in the future so we’re going to keep our certification current. And this way, if a sibling of Jacob and Makayla comes into foster care, we should get the first phone call. (Not that they have any more siblings currently, but their birth mom could always have a baby.)
